FieldServer Meets the Interoperability Needs of the University of Arizona

University of ARizona The University of Arizona is undergoing a major project that will link over 435 buildings. Fire alarm panels, energy management systems, security and HVAC controls from over 35 vendors need to interface to the campus wide BACnet IP based system. After extensive evaluation and testing, the University chose FieldServer to be the key to the interoperability of the many legacy devices and systems to the BACnet network.

Joe Branaum, Manager of Integrated Systems at the University says, "We decided on using FieldServer to bring the various Modbus, LonWorks and Simplex devices into the Campus SCADA."

FieldServer Goes to the South Pole

Modbus From the deserts of Arizona to the frozen land of the South Pole, FieldServer goes to the end of the earth to meet the interoperability needs in building automation systems. At the McMurdo Station on Antarctica the operator of the power station needed to interface information from the Caterpillar generators to the BACnet network.

FieldServer not only met the need but the integrator commissioning the unit found the ability of FieldServer Technical Support to analyze the situation via remote satellite communication made commissioning go smoothly.

Tech Tip - Single Writes on Modbus

The FieldServer is designed to meet the needs of a wide variety of protocols and devices. Since many protocols are significantly different in structure from the protocol the device is trying to interface with, the FieldServer must be adapable to handle these variances. As an example, occasionally a Modbus device does not support some FieldServer function codes. We have produced ENOTE 018, "Single Writes on Modbus", that will help the integrator force these function codes.
