County Public Library System -- FieldServer links EST3
Fire Alarm Panels to Trane BAS
After decades of continuous growth, the Allen County
Public Library in Fort Wayne, Indiana was facing strains
on the aging buildings in its 16 building system. The
library administration developed plans to replace some
branches and to expand and renovate others in the
system. Trane was awarded the systems automation and
integration contract for building systems throughout all
library locations countywide.
Included in the scope of work was the requirement to
interface Edwards Systems Technology EST3 Fire Alarm
Panels to the Trane central Operator Work Stations via
BACnet/IP over the Ethernet WAN. Achieving this would
enable facilities management personnel to view the
status of the BAS and Fire Alarm Panels in sixteen
buildings from a single station. ESCO Communications was
responsible for the interface from EST3 to Trane via
BACnet/IP.
Rod Corson, Project Manager for ESCO Communications
stated, "FieldServer was there every step of the
way without hesitation."

Solves University of Arizona Math Problem
The University of Arizona has installed many FieldServer
gateways to achieve their goal of interfacing a wide
variety of HVAC, Fire alarm, and Energy systems to their
building automation system. As part of this project the
University was using multiple sources of chilled water,
which is an expensive commodity in Tucson, Arizona.
Ultrasonic flow meters on each chilled water pipe
monitored the flow of chilled water.
The University wanted to calculate total water usage but
did not want to burden existing computer resources with
these computations. The power of the FieldServer gateway
came to the rescue with its built in math functions. The
University Integrated Systems Group decided that it
would be far easier and more efficient to do the math
functions in the FieldServer and save the processing
power in their head-end computer, while centralizing the
processing control of chilled water metering.

Interfaces to Major Fire Alarm Control Panels
FieldServer Technologies has developed protocol drivers
to interface to most major Fire Alarm Control Panels,
including EST, Notifier, Simplex, Siemens, Secutron,
Spectronics, FCI, Gamewell and more. If you need to
bring fire alarm panel information to a BAS then
FieldServer has the solution.

Tip - FieldServer Interface to EST3 Fire Alarm Panel
One of the several different Fire Alarm Panels that have
successfully used FieldServer to interface to Building
Automation Systems is the EST3 from Edwards Systems
Technology. EST3 is an alarm panel that offers the
reporting of many different types of sensors as well as
the different states within each sensor. Although the
permutations of possible configurations for this
interface can be overwhelming, FieldServer Technologies
has put together an ENote that will helps the user sort
through the various information needed to properly
configure a FieldServer.
